Hands on experience

Having recently graduated from the University of Surrey with a degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management, Adam joined the Brend Hotels team in summer 2021 following the success of a university mentoring scheme which saw Director Peter Brend, mentor Adam for the last 12 months of his studies.

Adam missed out on the opportunity to take a placement year due to the pandemic and so he joined the Institute of Hospitality, and the mentoring scheme in the hopes of gaining some hands-on experience which would set him apart from his peers. Adam found his mentoring experience with Peter Brend invaluable - both as a networking opportunity and in terms of gaining a thorough understanding of all areas of the business. It’s clear to see that this was a success as within 9 months of employment at Brend Hotels, Adam had experience in the majority of hotel departments and was soon promoted to Junior Assistant Manager at The Royal Duchy Hotel in Falmouth.

It's only just begun...

Having set his sights on a career in hospitality from a young age, Adam always had a passion to work with people and provide quality events and services. This, plus his interest in travel and new cultures led him to discover a career within the hotel sector. His bubbly personality and hardworking nature has seen him go from strength to strength at Brend Hotels. Having started in the Food and Beverage team, Adam has worked in several roles and at two different hotels before finding his feet as the Sales and Events Manager at Saunton Sands Hotel. In this role, Adam sees through all the events that are hosted at the hotel, from the initial enquiry to post event feedback, and all of us here are incredibly happy with his performance.

At Brend Hotels, we pride ourselves on the training and development of all of our team members, promoting within where possible and offering training and development opportunities as often as possible. Adam is the perfect example of this as he’s been lucky enough to experience many departments and gain new skills which will see him go above and beyond.  For example, Adam helped introduce the Guest Relations experience at The Royal Duchy Hotel, has attended trade conferences, regularly attends Sales and Marketing meetings and is consistently working to increase the events offering at Saunton Sands Hotel.

"Mentoring, hands-on experience and what I learnt from my studies have all been invaluable to what I have accomplished so far!" - Adam Crocker

We asked Adam what he liked about working at Saunton and he said he loves building relationships with guests and customers, and generating new ideas and experiences to attract new customers and encourage repeat visits. Of course, he noted that the sea-view location is a bonus, getting to live and work by the coast!

It’s clear to see that Adam’s hospitality career has only just begun, and we are so excited to see what he does next. He has achieved so much in such a short time, but has already made a lasting impression on our team and guests. Keep up the great work, Adam!
