At the Brend Collection, every team member has the opportunity to thrive, and Megan O'Connell’s story is a shining example of how dedication and seizing new opportunities can lead to success. Megan joined The Barnstaple Hotel in July 2021, bringing with her a passion for working with people after spending two years on cruise ships. She quickly found her feet in the busy, fast-paced environment of the hotel, and her journey since then has been one of personal and professional growth.

Megan initially started in the bar team, where she thrived for a year. Eager to broaden her skills, she decided to take on a new challenge and moved into a receptionist role. This transition wasn’t without its challenges, but Megan was determined to learn and grow. By combining her bar experience with the new knowledge she gained at reception, she was able to develop a deeper understanding of hotel operations, setting the stage for future progression. Her dedication was soon rewarded with a promotion to senior receptionist, where she now helps train new team members.

A Passion for Hospitality 

One of Megan’s standout moments came during her second Christmas in reception, where she took charge of managing the Christmas package. From writing personalised cards to delivering hampers, she embraced the responsibility and enjoyed the opportunity to connect with guests on a more personal level. This experience not only enhanced her confidence but also highlighted her ability to deliver the exceptional service that defines the Brend Collection.

Reflecting on her journey so far, Megan attributes much of her success to the opportunities for growth within the company. She encourages new team members to take every opportunity that comes their way, even if it feels daunting at first. Looking ahead, Megan hopes to progress to a head receptionist role, continuing her journey with the Brend Collection and contributing to its ongoing success.
