Our longest serving staff member
Margaret, The Royal Hotel’s Head Receptionist, has been working for Brend Hotels for 49 years and is our longest serving staff member.
After completing a ‘Hotel Bookkeeping & Reception Course’, Margaret’s grandmother saw an advert in the newspaper for a hotel receptionist. Margaret applied, was interviewed by Mr. John Brend and was offered the job at The Royal Hotel the following day. Since then she's never looked back.
Margaret talks about the last 49 years at Brend Hotels by saying…
“‘When I started in those days Mr. Percy and Mrs. Florence Brend were still at the helm with sons Mr. John and Mr. Peter involved in the hotel side of the business.
As the years went on working at the Royal I have also done some work in bar and restaurant areas as part of the assistant management team, which I had to give up due to my late husband's ill health. Luckily a vacancy arose in reception so I went back to my original position, to later became Head Receptionist.
Here I am 49 yrs later. Over the last 49 years, there have been many changes to the Royal Hotel as well as the acquisitions to company’s list of hotels also Mr & Mrs. Brends family with future generations now taking their place within the business.”
Margaret has seen many changes to Brend Hotels over the years, including the buying of 8 of our hotels and the generations of the Brend family coming up through the ranks. Her hard work and dedication to the company are second to none and everyone is thrilled to still have her within the team so many years later.
